The International School of Handwriting Sciences was started in 1980 by Ted Widmer. His interest began in the mid-50's. He studied with several European graphologists, and disciples of Max Pulver, a Swiss psychologist. Before Mr. Widmer passed away in 2006 he transfered the International School of Handwriting Sciences to his student Mindy Ryan who now administers the program.
ISHS offers three types of courses, The Basic, The Intermediate, The Advanced. Each is ten sessions of three hours. More information about the course can be found by going to the ISHS Webpage (below):

Dr. Erika M. Karohs, Professor Emeritus at Monterey Peninsula College and a Senator of the Academy of Arts & Sciences, Luxembourg, is a professional lecturer, author and consultant to management. She has studied in Germany, Switzerland and in the USA earning two master of Arts degrees in languages and political and doctoral degrees in industrial psychology and education. Dr. Karohs is well respected as a graphologist as well as for her numerous publications and innovative courses of instruction.

IGAS provides two 18 month correspondence courses, the General Certification and the Master Certification. Students completing the courses are entitled to use the title of CGA or MGA as long as yearly dues are paid and as long as the analyst strictly adheres to the principles of Graphoanalysis, which is a trademarked term. IGAS has been teaching courses for over 65 years.
The courses are about 30 lessons each with essays and multiple choice tests. Approximate cost is $1600. for each certification.

The Institute of Graphological Science was founded in 1982 and licensed in early 1983 by the Texas Education Agency as the first state certified graphology school in the United States. The school now holds a license in the state of Oklahoma also. The founder, Dr. Mary Lynn Bryden, a professional graphologist had a background of over twenty years in education as well as holding a PhD in psychology. The present Executive Director is Pat Johnson

The school offers three courses in Graphology and one in Questioned Document Examination. Level One course introduces the science of handwriting analysis; Level Two follows with more specialized areas. (tIGS offers an examination for those whose knowledge of Graphology allows them to begin with Level Two studies.) Level Three is a seminar series dealing with advanced issues.
Katherine Koppenhaven, CDE, with the assistance of Judith Housely, CDE, has authored the Questioned Document Examination. It has 36 lessons.

The International Graphology Association is an accredited professional course in graphology having received acceptance by the Open & Distance Learning quality Council and is a member of the Association of British Correspondence Colleges.
The full course of 30 lessions, which earns the designation DipIGA, trains one to be a professional graphologist. Part One is designed to give a thorough grounding in the basics of graphology. The student works with a qualified analyst but is not allowed to practise professionally. Part Two is concerned with the structured, proven system of producing an analysis of a personality. Once this area is completed, the technician becomes a professional.
Additionally, a Master (MIGA) of the IGA program is offered to the DipIGA to be acquired through a thesis or research project.

- The Graduate course in handwriting analysis is an in depth and all inclusive course. It is for the student focusing on becoming a professional analyst. Diploma as "Certified Handwriting Analyst" is issued upon successful completion. Students are allocated a personal instructor through out the course training.
