Why are congruent or incongruent profiles an issue?:
In assessing the different styles of profiles, keep in mind that handwriting is emotionally produced and driven and its interpretation is based on the concept of emotional contraction or release which is tied to the regularity or irregularity of the movement. And remember that handwriting assesses potential, which may be latent or actualized, so the handwriting profile is generally larger than the HBDI which assesses preferences.
When the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI) profiles and the handwriting profiles were superimposed, the results revealed a large number of congruent and a few incongruent profiles. (Farmer's score is identified by the jagged line while the HBDI score is identified by the smooth line).
Congruency (both profiles similar in shape) reveals an agreement between how the participant answered the HBDI profile and what the handwriting assessed.
Incongruency (the handwriting profile was dissimilar) reveals the participant answered the HBDI differently than what the handwriting assessed.
Note: incongruencies reveal the pitfalls of self-assessment as it hinges on how well one knows oneself. For whatever reasons, those participants elected to deny all aspects of emotion in answering the HBDI questionnaire. However, when both the congruent and incongruent profiles are viewed in conjunction with the handwriting and when the dynamics of the handwriting are taken into consideration, it is apparent that the handwriting is more accurate - the message is in the emotionally driven movement. It is reflecting their extroversion.
